 I am into the second of a four book series and am totally lost in this fantasy quest story.  Begin with book one, THE NAMING (PELLINOR SERIES) by Alison Croggon. Maerad is rescued from slavery and discovers she has special powers. Her companion believes her to be the prophesied One who will oppose the dark power working toward the destruction of their world. As they travel, they encounter constant danger. It's heavy on description, but worth the time.

Here's another fantasy, but it's totally different.  MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN is peculiar, but interesting. Sixteen-year-old Jacob travels to a remote island where his grandfather had lived when he was young. He discovers the strange children his grandfather had told him about had never aged, but something now threatens them.  There are odd photographs throughout the story. Check it out.

If you'd rather read a mystery, try SHELTER by Harlan Coben. The author, a well-known writer of adult mysteries, has taken the teenaged character from another book & made him the central character in this YA mystery. Mickey's new girlfriend vanishes and he refuses to quit until he can discover what happened.
